My Home Office

business tips just for fun Apr 13, 2023
Photographer home office

I have had seven home offices since I launched my business in 2008. SEVEN. That tells you how much we have moved over the years. ðŸ˜¬ The three things I have found to be most important to me are natural light (both for color accuracy in editing and general happiness), storage, and large desk space.

Right behind my desk is my large linen pinboard (from Restoration Hardware) and is covered in all of my favorite family self portraits we have taken over the years. I love being able to look up from my computer to see my favorite people and memories.

The wall color is Benjamin Moore Classic Gray, and the storage cabinet below is the Ikea Hemnes Cabinet that I hacked (got it on Facebook marketplace for $50!). I simply removed the glass doors, painted it (Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter), and switched out the knobs. The key to making any Ikea furniture look higher end is to caulk all the seams before painting - ALL of them. It really makes the biggest difference in the end product.

My other storage cabinet below is the Clio Shagreen Dresser from Restoration Hardware. Dressers are a great option for home office storage!

The La Jolla baskets from Serena and Lily are my go-to all of our house for storing kids' toys; however, this one I use to store my camera bag and the blankets I use for sessions.

While I wouldn't have this rug in a kids' playroom, I love it so much in my offices as it adds so much texture and brightens the whole room. My dog has thrown up on it several times, and it's come right out if that helps when considering how easy it is to clean. ðŸ¤£

My desk is the 72" concrete Heston Desk from Restoration Hardware. It's huge, and I use every singe inch of it. ðŸ¤£ (I linked a similar and more affordable one below as well.) I linked anything that's still available below as well as some other items I liked and had considered for the space.
